Painting portraits of children can be challenging not only because of their subtle features but also because of their tendency to move.

Join Louis as he guides you through his process of painting children. He will demonstrate in the morning painting a child from life. After the demo, you will all practice painting from life as he makes his way through the room giving individual instruction. Louis will go through tips and tricks that help you navigate through the difficulties of a child’s pose while trying to capture children’s likenesses and color from life. There will be discussions about child’s structure and how to capture their subtle identifying markers, as well as pitfalls that people usually have when painting children. Louis’s work focuses on classical realism through the delicate rendition of the human figure and landscapes of the natural world. Since the materialization of his artistic gifts during his childhood, he has embarked on a lifelong journey to establish himself as a master of fine art. His amiability and innate aptitude for business make him an exceptional, versatile tutor, and his dexterous draftsmanship and perceptive interpretation of value and form instill a visible vitality in his paintings, preserving a high demand for his work. He has done over a hundred portrait commissions, and continues to be booked over 2 years.

Early influences by artists such as Marshall J. Bouldin III (September 6, 1923 – November 12, 2012) inspired his specialization in human portraiture, and with the steadfast support of his family, Louis entered the profession full time at the age of 20. After building a strong client network and independent business, he received a highly distinguished scholarship to complete a Fine Arts degree at the University of Mississippi. In 2013, compelled to refine his technical skills even further, he moved to New York to study at the Grand Central Atelier under renowned artists Jacob Collins and Joshua LaRock.

In 2017, in partnership with Joshua and fellow artist Michael Klein, Louis founded East Oaks Studio in Raleigh, North Carolina, to propagate an influential environment, within which a new community of artists seeking to master excellence could thrive.
