WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Colley’s students will be learning techniques to paint subjects such as Landscapes, Interiors, Seascapes and Urban Scenes. With Colley’s easy-going nature he will help guide you towards producing works that are bold, confident, and skilfully handled paintings filled with light. Students will be covering topics such as edges, tonal values, composition, brushwork, color saturation and focal points. We will be experimenting with techniques that will allow us to infuse abstract brush treatment into a realistic image.

Colley will perform one of his ”Still Life” demonstrations to show the importance of why we need to be well rehearsed in the basics which will then allow us to create individual works of art. Colley’s workshops are conducted in an inspirational, interactive and positive environment. The workshop will be conducted in a step-by-step process.

PLEASE NO FILMING OR PHOTOGRAPHING OF ARTWORKS AT WORKSHOP. THANK YOU.

Colley Whisson is an internationally recognized artist born and raised in the northern regions of Brisbane, Australia. He held his first Solo Exhibition at the age of 24, and he is happy to carry the tag as one of Australia’s finest young Impressionist painters.

Board & Canvas Preparation
MDF

(Medium-density fibreboard is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibres, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels by
applying high temperature and pressure.)

1. One coat of primer or undercoat (Apply to seal the surface)
2. One coat of gesso
3. Mix in 50% cream Interior Acrylic House paint and 50% water & apply one coat to tint the surface.

CANVAS
White Canvas:
1. Mix in 50% cream Interior Acrylic House paint and 50% water apply one coat to tint the surface.
Non-Sealed Canvas:
1. One coat of primer or undercoat (Apply to seal the surface)
2. Use one top coat of white Interior Acrylic House paint.
3. Mix in 50% cream Interior Acrylic House paint and 50% water & apply one coat to tint the surface.

ALL coats to be applied preferably with a large synthetic brush.
The secret to having a good board surface is so it’s not too rough, porous or not too slippery. I like to call it the Goldilocks formula. It needs to be just right! It can take a bit of experimentation but it’s better for the board to
be a little towards the smoother side.
