WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Composition involves the entire relationship of parts to whole, from the individual brushstroke to the largest shape. It is only through solid creative composition that a painting becomes powerful and unique. In this workshop you will explore the organization of value, structure of the rectangle, manipulation of pictorial space and the role of color and mark-making. Maggie will work with you to gain new insight and skill in composition. Working from the still life, you will emphasize light as the organizer of color and shape. Aesthetic principles and painting techniques will be presented while individual attention and group critiques will help you evaluate your work. Maggie’s gestural style is classically derived, yet contemporary.
