CLASS DESCRIPTION
The REAL trick for drawing the human figure is not simply SEEING what’s what, but REMEMBERING what’s what.
Dan Nelson has spent much of his art career figuring out tricks for doing just that— mnemonic devices of various sorts that will help the student not only to RENDER the figure, but REMEMBER the figure.

ARTIST BIO
Dan made his living for decades as a freelance illustrator, winning competitions in everything from street painting to sand sculpture. At the same time he began mesmerizing audiences by producing 8-by-10-foot masterpieces in the streets and parks of Raleigh, North Carolina, his hometown.
Besides setting up his plein air easel anywhere from California to Cote d’Azure, Dan spends much of his time doing Live Art Performances in cities large and small, painting at festivals, concerts, and fund-raisers. He has painted for the NC Symphony, the Carolina Hurricanes, IBM, Glaxo Smith Kline, and many of the major Corporations across the Triangle and beyond.
With a BFA from Calvin College Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dan has been teaching art for decades, and loves passing on all the secrets he has learned in his long and multi-faceted career.

CANCELLATION POLICY (NEW!)
If a month before the class we haven’t reached the minimum amount of students for the workshop to happen the workshop will be canceled and students will receive a full refund.
If you cancel less than 60 DAYS prior to the start of a workshop you will receive half of your registration fee, If you cancel less than 30 DAYS prior the start of the workshop you will not receive a refund. If you must cancel in this time frame we encourage you to find a replacement, and your replacement can reimburse you for your course fee. If you cancel before the 60-day limit you will receive a full refund minus 3% processing fee. Unfortunately, students who start a multiple-day class and are unable to attend any portion will not receive a refund.
INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY (NEW!)
Class will be canceled or rescheduled if inclement weather (hurricanes, snow storm, tropical storm, black ice, flooding, etc.) is on the forecast. No one should take any unnecessary risks. If a class is canceled for inclement weather, the class will be rescheduled if possible for both parties.

PAPER OPTIONS:
Newsprint pad, approximately 18 x 24
Sketch OR drawing Pad, approximately 16 x 20 or larger
Some kind of stiff board to use behind these pads. We will be drawing on standing easels (provided by the studio).

1) An assortment of soft graphite pencils (2B, 4B, 6B…)
2) A hand-held pencil sharpener
3) Vine Charcoal
4) Charcoal pencil (soft)
5) An assortment of blenders (“tortillions”)
6) A kneaded eraser
